Basil, Namal too, to be summoned

Ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa and MP Namal Rajapaksa are to be summoned within the next fortnight for questioning in connection with their having spent Rs. 1,500 million of state money on internal flight travels, said the presidential commission investigating serious financial crime. According to sources at the commission, Basil alone had spent Rs. 1,052 million in a two year period, mostly during the last presidential election. Namal had used Rs. 500 million of state money for internal flights within a five year period, investigations have revealed. More powers to the commission Meanwhile, the five-member commission, headed by appeal court judge Preethi Padman Surasena, has been given extensive powers. In gazette extraordinary 1952/2, bank managers and inland revenue chief should submit information in writing of bank account and revenue details of persons under investigation by the commission, as well as their spouses and children.
